Rocksource submits applications for awards in the Norwegian 20th licensing round

On Friday 7 November 2008, Rocksource ASA (“Rocksource”) submitted applications for the Norwegian 20th Licensing Round to the Ministry for Petroleum and Energy (OED).

The applications mark the completion of Rocksource’s 20th Round project which was initiated in early 2007. Rocksource has screened a large section of acreage available on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, and the screening has been centred on the Controlled Source Electromagnetic (CSEM) acquisition programme which took place in the summer of 2007. During this period Rocksource acquired CSEM data across 39 prospects that totalled 7.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent in mean unrisked resources. These data were then processed using Rocksource’s proprietary CSEM technology “Rocksource Discover” and integrated with geologic and geophysical data. This unique approach has allowed Rocksource to successfully high grade areas that form the basis for this application and further exploration.

VP Norway/UK, Ole J. Østvedt, states: “Rocksource believes that this approach to exploration is a highly efficient method for identifying high potential prospectivity, reducing the overall environmental footprint for exploration and appraisal and increasing the overall chance of discovery.”

Awards are expected in early Q2 2009.
