Production through 1st half of 2009 was 1,564 boepd and average production for the year 2009 is expected to be 1,300 boepd.
Originally discovered in 1956 the New Ace field has a long history. Production is from a series of stacked, Wilcox (Eocene) aged shoreface and coastal plain deposits. Key challenges within the field have been large volumes of poorly constrained well and production data and, complex geology and petrophysics. 3D Reservoir modelling and advanced reservoir management techniques have has been used to address both of these issues and have resulted in an improved understanding of the distribution of produced and remaining hydrocarbons within the field. This has lead to the development of a field optimization plan which to date has included targeted workovers, and recompletions of existing wells. An infill drilling campaign started in January 2008.
The Drews Landing Field lies to the north of New Ace and also contains Wilcox reservoirs. The field was developed and brought on stream during the 2007 drilling campaign. The location and optimization of the wells was based on a series of geocellular models, which include mapped surfaces from the 3D seismic data and reservoir properties from wells in the adjacent field.
The development and re-development of the two fields has demonstrated Rocksource’s business model of bringing together advanced, offshore-style reservoir management with local knowledge and experience. Having demonstrated the validity of this model and having learnt a lot along the way, Rocksource is keen to expand its production operations and is reviewing a number of opportunities in Texas and other states.
