Frontier licenses P1484 and P1488 were awarded during the 24th UKCS Licensing Round. This acreage is currently being evaluated in partnership with OMV (50%, operator) & Dana (35%).
Located on the northwest margin of the Faroe Shetland Basin the blocks are situated in close proximity to the Eocene Tobermory gas discovery (214/4-1) & the oil/gas discovery well 214/9-1 (Bunnehaven). The recent discovery at Rosebank & Lochnagar also lies on trend, 50 km to the southwest.
The Frontier License work programme to purchase 2D and 3D seismic has been completed and AVO and CSEM modeling studies are either underway or planned for 2008. Prospectivity has been identified within Upper Palaeocene and Upper Eocene deep water fan successions. Trapping mechanisms are closely related to the inherited topography with sands draped over pre-Tertiary structures.
On April 1st 2009 relinquishment of 75% of the acreage defined under these licenses was completed after the area prospectivity was ranked by the joint venture. A drill or drop decision will be provided by April 1st 2013.
